Waddeton Court - Ranger

Full Time / Fixed Term 12 months

Salary: £21,000-25,000

We are currently looking to recruit an outgoing and positive individual to join our team and assist with the maintenance on a private family estate. The estate comprises of 150 acres of formal gardens, farmland, woodland, cover crops and recreational grounds. Situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty within South Devon, the estate boarders the River Dart.

Under the supervision of the Head Gardener and estate manager, the role will encompass maintenance and husbandry of our woodlands, copses, tidal slipways and amenity grounds. In addition, liaising with the game keeper to improve shoot drives with bird lifts, brash barriers, pheasant pens and fencing. Strimming, grass and hedge cutting and assisting the garden team with horticultural tasks when required. A keen interest in conservation to enhance the biodiversity and maturity of the estate.

Like many, we are also suffering from Ash dieback therefore the management of this disease and ability to monitor our trees within the estate is vital. The ranger may also be required to fell trees from time to time to produce firewood, kindling and lumber.

Who we're looking for? 

We’d love to hear from you if you’re:

• practically experienced in conservation work, to protect and improve habitats and landscapes
• hard-working and willing to learn
• able to work safely, using risk assessments and following guidelines
• experienced in managing land, access and conservation, and working outdoors
• able to use machinery and maintain equipment, with relevant certificates
• a driver with a full UK driving licence
